Since 1971 the Kings of Castellamonte have been reaping successes in the league. Women put effort and heart into it

In the seventies the women’s team arrived in Serie A, while the boys up to Serie B. To date, the girls make up the Senior in the cadet series

Castellamonte

Castellamonte is the Canavese city of baseball and softball and can boast two very active teams, because Kings baseball and softball are also committed to achieving good results.

Founded more than forty years ago, in 1971, the Kings are the historic baseball club in Canavese and boast high level goals achieved over the years, as the coach of the first women’s team, Manuel Cidani, tells us: “In the seventies the girls were you manage to land in Serie A, while the boys have made it up to Serie B. At the moment, the women’s team is doing a good championship. The first round has just ended and for now the team is third in the standings in the national group A of Serie B. For the Under 15 we are not talking about the championship, but about concentrations, while the Under 12 team is second in standings in the official category championship: he lost for the first time on Saturday against Boves ».

Even the Kings, like the “opposing” home team, promotes and participates in meetings in schools to make the sport of baseball and softball (female) known and appreciated: “We are having numerous meetings with the federal instructors in schools to insert new members in our teams – explains the coach. – The number of kids who train in our Ghiaro Superiore street camp has increased thanks to these initiatives. Every week, thanks to these initiatives, we see new kids arriving interested in learning to play this sport. In mini baseball, where they start, there are already eleven new recruits. Furthermore, up to the Under 12, the teams are mixed and we are also making agreements with other clubs to rejuvenate the first women’s team as well ». In total about eighty members.

An important part of this sport, as for the others where you play as a team, is associations, being together with a common goal: “After Covid and two years of pandemic, which despite everything did not particularly affect the our sport since we play in the summer and the championships have not been stopped by the strict rules of containment, the boys want to be together and we as a society work hard on this social discourse of union and integration. – explains coach Cidani. – The youth teams are the starting point to do well when they go to the first team, but first you have to learn the game and do it while having fun. We focus a lot on this and we never stop working with this in mind, not even in winter with athletic training in view of the championships. Compared to other sports we were lucky during the pandemic, because we managed not to stop, without being suspended ».

Currently the Kings of Castellamonte have not formed a first male team, but there is a female one that gives a lot of satisfaction to its fans. In fact, women seem to be the most passionate about this sport and the coach of the first women’s team confirms this: “I train the girls of the first team of the Kings of Castellamonte and since the youth categories I can say that the girls are the ones who they are more passionate about this sport – says Cidani. – They work hard to achieve results and have a great passion for this sport. There are great attachment and harmony to the team and to the sport even on the part of the boys, but the women, the girls who play in the Kings of Castellamonte really put their heart into it ”, concludes the coach with satisfaction. –
