In Sella Nevea, in the amphitheater of Monte Canin within the Natural Park of the Julian Prealps, the 67th edition of the Monta Canin ski mountaineering event gave those present unforgettable emotions.
The race, which took place over a distance of 16 km with 1700 m of positive altitude difference, attracted athletes from numerous nations. The pair of Marco del Missier and Gabriele Fedrizzi dominated the race, finishing the effort in 2h11′, ahead of Del Negro Ruben and Vuerich Davide and the South Tyroleans Steiner Anton and Kristandl Andreas.
At the same time there was also the individual race, won by the athlete of the Austrian national team Paul Verbnjak, in just under two hours, in second place the Friulian Giuseppe Vidoni 2h17′ in his first ski mountaineering race, while in third place he finished his effort was the Greek national Papanikos Dimitrios with a time of 2h20′. The women’s race was won by the Czech national team Marcela Vasinova with the excellent time of 2h37′, Mara Silla in second place while the Friulian Debora Foschia of Aldo Moro Nortec closes the podium.
The event was also valid as a regional ski mountaineering pairs championship. The athletes of the US Aldo Moro Nortec Fusetti Davide and Masarin Mauro won the master category. While the duo Del Negro Ruben and Vuerich Davide became regional champions for the Senior category, the overall classification was won by the duo Del Missier-Fedrizzi.
On the slopes of Monte Canin there was an excellent presence of the public, who encouraged the athletes in the most spectacular sections of the race, with the characteristic passage through the “hole” of Monte Forato. The Rifugio Gilberti area, where the start and finish points were located, proved to be up to the task of an event of this magnitude and beyond, giving enthusiasts the opportunity to follow the development of the race almost entirely.
The appointment is already set for spring 2025.
