Together with Aboubakary Koïta, Jarne Steuckers applied for the role of standout in STVV-Club Brugge (2-1). The Truienaar was especially relieved that his team straightened out after the slide in Eupen: “It is up to us to continue the good trend in play-off 2.”
At a full Stayen, the Canaries got off to a weak start, but gradually they took the lead. “We were not at the appointment in the initial phase,” Steuckers also noted. “But at the end of the first half we felt there was something in it. As a result, we came out of the locker room with fresh courage. If we stayed calm in possession, the chances would come sooner or later. That also happened.”
Steuckers was involved in almost every threat from Truiense and was responsible for Zahiroleslam’s equalizer with a wonderful cross pass for Ogawa. “I had often told Koïta before that he had to squeeze inside to create space for Ogawa. (Grins) This time he listened and it paid off.”

Like his teammates, the right winger stood up for the unfortunate substitute Fatih Kaya after the German’s painful penalty miss. “I wish Fatih so much because I see how smoothly he kicks the balls in during training,” said Steuckers. “It’s purely a matter of trust. I’m sure he’ll leave as soon as he can score one goal. As a team we will do everything we can to help him get better mentally, because this is of course not fun for him.”
Thanks to the great victory, STVV ends the regular season with 40 points. “Then the conclusion is that this is a successful season,” Steuckers concluded. “But it’s not over yet. It is up to us to continue the good trend in play-off 2. We want to finish as high as possible.”
