After Sunday’s home match against Club Brugge, the Canaries will fly off for international duty. For example, Mathias Delorge, Matte Smets and Jarne Steuckers were called up for the Belgian promises and Zion Suzuki gets a new chance with Japan.
Suzuki will play two World Cup qualifying matches with Japan against North Korea, the first on Thursday, March 21 and the second on Tuesday, March 26. The Belgian promises will play two European Championship qualifiers on the same dates: first at home against Malta and then in and against Spain. Together with Antwerp, STVV is the main supplier to the Belgian U23 with a delegation of three players.
Rihito Yamamoto and Joel Fujita were called up to Japan’s national U23 team, which will play two friendlies. The first against Mali on March 22 and the second against Ukraine on March 25. Goalkeeper Matt Lendfers can defend the goal for the Belgian U18. Finally, Aboubakary Koita is still waiting for confirmation of his selection for Mauritania. If he is also called up, it would bring the number of STVV internationals to eight.
