Summary of the Tigres vs Monterrey match (1-2). Quarter finals

In the First Leg of the Quarterfinals, Rayados took a significant step towards the semifinals by defeating Tigres 2-1 at the Universitario Stadium in Clásico Regio 136. The match was filled with controversy surrounding the refereeing of Marco Antonio Ortiz.

The first half saw few opportunities on goal, with Juan Brunetta’s attempt to score going high. The controversy began in the 22nd minute when a handball by Samir Caetano in the area went unnoticed by the referee, despite calls for a VAR review.

Monterrey opened the scoring in the 27th minute, as Sergio Canales found the back of the net. Diego Lainez equalized for Tigres just before halftime with a low shot into the goal. However, a minute later, another controversial decision by Ortiz led to a goal kick instead of a penalty for Tigres.

Monterrey took the lead early in the second half, with Maxi Meza scoring their second goal. Despite several opportunities, including missed chances by Berterame and Gignac, Tigres were unable to find an equalizer.

The return leg is set to take place on May 12 at the Gigante de Acero, where the team to advance to the Semifinals will be determined. Rayados hold the advantage in table position, giving them a good chance to qualify even with a loss in the second leg.
