Simona Quadarella wins the gold medal in 1,500 meters freestyle at the swimming world championships Doha, in Qatar. The 25 year old Roman dominated the race from the first meters and won with a time of 15’46″99 on the Chinese Bingjie Li, second with 15’56″62, and on the German Isabel Gose, third with 15’57″55. For Quadarella – who also gains access to the Paris 2024 Olympics – it is about second world gold in the specialty, after the one obtained in 2019 in Gwangju, South Korea.
“I’m really happy, I wanted to win. I knew she would be within my reach, but I didn’t think I’d do 15’46”, this makes me even happier. I wanted to get this medal, at first I tried to wait a bit, then I saw that I didn’t struggle and I tried to distance myself from my opponents,” the athlete said to RaiSport after the triumph. “There is lots of Simona in this medal, perhaps today I put something more into it that I honestly didn’t think I would be able to put in”, he added.
