Two gold medals, three silver medals, four bronze medals, two fourth places and two World Cup leader jerseys: the athletes of the Equa Team of Santa Cristina make a full booty with the Italian national team in the first round of the World Cup of handbike and para-cycling held in Ostend, Belgium.
For the handbike on the first step of the podium the Pavia-born Luisa Pasini climbed twice, who in the WH1 category won both in the time trial and in the line one, consequently conquering the World Cup leader’s jersey. The captain of the Pavia team, Paolo Cecchetto, on the other hand, placed second in the time trial and third in the line, where he was beaten in the final sprint, also conquering the leader’s jersey in the MH3 category. Fabrizio Cornegliani won two silver medals, second both in the time trial and in the line one in the MH1 category, beaten only by an extraordinary Maxime Hordies. Eleonora Mele placed fourth in the time trial and third in line in the WC5 para-cycling category. The last test held for the handbike was the “Team Relay” or the relay, where the athletes Paolo Cecchetto, Francesca Porcellato and Diego Colombari, with the Italian national jersey, were able to defend the blue colors by concluding the test in the third place. In para-cycling, but with the Russian national team, Svetlana Moshkovic finished third in the time trial and fourth in the line. The trial for the two paracyclists of the Equa Team Andrea Casadei, seventeenth in the MC2 category, and Eduard Moescu, twentieth in the same category, also ended.
«Despite the climatic conditions, which saw the weather forecasts affect the races from the wind, rain and very cold, bringing the test to the limit for the athletes – explains the Team Equa diesse, Ercole Spada – all of our team behaved very well. They all showed up in shape to aim for the maximum target. And to think that it was over a year that no longer competed. Now the national team retires in Livigno and then the world championship in June with excellent conditions for our athletes, who can only improve ». –
