Rome, 11 July 2021 – The day after the threats of ISIS in Rome and to the foreign minister, Luigi Di Maio, the Italian police have dealt a blow to the galaxy of ISIS. A Moroccan of 29 years he was fought in Syria first in the ranks of Al Nusra and then in Isis, where he had held the position of military officer, was arrested by the police in Lago, in the province of Salerno, at the end an investigation that involved Antiterrorism, Digos of Naples and Salerno, Aisi and Moroccan secret services.
Against the man, who is now in the Salerno prison at the disposal of the judicial authority pending extradition, there was a warrant issued by the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Rabat, Morocco, on June 28, and extended internationally on July 8.
The allegations hypothesized by the Prosecutor’s Office for the Moroccan are criminal association aimed at preparing and committing acts of terrorism, illegal possession of weapons, raising funds for the financing of terrorism and threats to public order. The man was located in Lago thanks to the contribution of 007 of the Aisi, the internal security agency, and those of the DGST (Directorate General for the Surveillance of Terrorism) of Morocco: monitored and followed, the 29-year-old was stuck in the near a bar where he was with other non-EU citizens. The Moroccan’s name had been included in the Schengen database by Spain and France and had ended up under the lens of intelligence already in 2018 precisely because of his past in Syria, where he had been in 2012.
