Uvalde, May 26, 2022 – The trail of horror and fear does not stop after the massacre in the school of Uvalde, Texas. Texas police have arrested a student armed with a pistol and a rifle outside a high school in Richardson, 560km north of Uvalde. A witness who had seen a person with a rifle near the school alerted the police. The call came at 10.55 am local time to warn that a young man was walking with a rifle towards the Berkner Institute. Several agents rushed to the scene; the young man was inside the institute but was unarmed, local police explained in a statement. The weapons were found in his vehicle: the pistol was Ak-47 style (the Kalashnikov) and an Ar-15 style rifle, the most used in shootings in the USA. The student was arrested for the crime of carrying arms in a school area.
The attack on Uvalde
Meanwhile, disturbing new details emerge about the Uvalde carnage, in which 19 children and two teachers were killed. Lieutenant Christopher Olivarez of the Public Security Department told CNN that the killer, Salvador Ramos, “barricaded himself, locking the door and started shooting children and teachers who were inside that class”. It would not have been a flash massacre. A law enforcement official anonymously told The Associated Press that the border patrol agents – about 100 of those who intervened – had problems breaking down the door of the classroom, so much so that they had to convince a staff member to open the room with a key in order to break in and stop the assailant. Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said it was “about 40 minutes” from Ramos firing on the school security officer until he was killed after the operation.
Massacre announced
The American broadcaster also reported that just minutes before the attack began, Ramos sent a message to a girl living in Frankfurt, Germany, revealing his insane intentions. The still images of the messages examined by the cable network apparently show the suspicion that he complains to the girl that her grandmother was “on the phone with (a mobile operator) AT&T about my phone”
“It’s annoying,” he wrote. CNN reported that six minutes later she replied to the girl: “I just shot my grandmother in the head.” Seconds later, she added: “I’m going to shoot in an elementary school.” The last message was sent 11 minutes before the school shooting started. The girl told CNN that she talked to the 18-year-old every day on FaceTime and that they also communicated via a live streaming app called Yubo and a gaming app called Plato.
