After careful consideration and confirmation by the World Swimming Federation Executive Committee, Beijing has been selected as the host city for the 2029 World Swimming Championships and Adult Swimming Championships. This decision marks an important milestone in Beijing’s journey to becoming a “Double Olympic City” and a leading global sports destination.

With a track record of hosting 15 FINA Swimming World Cups and numerous other international swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo events, Beijing has established itself as a premier venue for aquatic sports. The official website of the World Swimming Federation has confirmed that the city will be the epicenter of world swimming in 2029.

The World Aquatics Championships, organized by the World Swimming Federation, represents the pinnacle of global swimming competition, featuring six events: swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo, open water swimming, and high platform diving. More than 200 countries and 2,500 athletes are expected to participate in the event. Furthermore, the World Adult Swimming Championships, a popular mass sports event, will attract around 10,000 participants competing in swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo, and open water swimming.

Hussein Al Musallam, President of FINA, expressed his gratitude to Beijing for its commitment to providing exceptional competition conditions for athletes. He emphasized the organization’s willingness to cooperate with China and praised the city for its dedication to hosting world-class sports events.

The Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau views the successful bid to host the 2029 World Swimming Championships as a significant step in implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s vision for Beijing and promoting sports development. The bureau highlighted the event as an opportunity to further enhance the country’s swimming competitiveness, attract more people to the sport, and strengthen China’s position as a formidable sports nation.
