Teacher, city councilor, administrator of the Crc Foundation and president of the Cancer League. Sergio Giraudo, 81 years old, died yesterday evening (31 December) at the hospice in Busca. A life of administrative commitment, in school and in voluntary work. Giraudo was born in San Pietro del Gallo on 4 August 1940.

He has dedicated 30 years to teaching in high school in Cuneo, 10 years in the family farm. Son of “Minichet” Giraudo (deputy mayor and councilor of Cuneo after the war), he inherited from his father the passion for politics, dedicating a large part of his life to the commitment to the public interest and the community. Sided for the Christian Democrats, he was a protagonist of city politics from 1970 to 2010. In particular, he was municipal councilor from 1985 to 1995 with the mayors Elvio Viano and Giuseppe Menardi, but also provincial councilor from 1990 to 1995 with the president Giovanni Quaglia. For 17 years he was director of the Crc Foundation.

His commitment in the voluntary sector is great: he was founder and president of the Italian League for the fight against cancer which he directed for 36 years, promoting the great development of the association throughout the province, in particular with the opening of five offices in Cuneo, Alba, Bra, Mondovì and Saluzzo. There were many battles in support of the growth of the Cuneo healthcare system and of the Santa Croce hospital. He was currently honorary president of Lilt.

On a sporting level, he was a great fan of ball punch. Last year, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, Giraudo published the autobiography «Choices and challenges. Half a century of commitment between politics, administration and volunteering in the Cuneo area “, in which he recounted his experience as a student worker and teacher, volunteer and father, administrator and politician. In the four mandates to the Municipality in Cuneo (three as councilor), there is a strong commitment to three major works: the East-West connection in the capital, the Miac wholesale market and the sports hall. “My path – Giraudo writes in the introduction, and it is also his political testament – has always been based on the search to improve the realities of the municipal and provincial territory, with the usual and unfailing attention, without interests to be placed before the satisfaction of needs of the population and for the strongest advantage to be created on the territory “.
