On February 1, the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center Sea Crown Arena played host to the opening ceremonies of the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. The first day of competition saw women’s singles, men’s singles, and pairs compete in the short program.

In the women’s singles event, Chen Hongyi, Zhu Yi, and Cheng Jiaying all successfully advanced to the free skate. The men’s singles and pairs events also saw Chinese skaters progressing to the free skate.

With the women’s singles free skating competition scheduled for the 2nd, the day promises to determine the first gold medal of the event.

Zhu Yi, who scored 52.77 points, said she was happy to have completed two triple axels in her short program performance. She expressed her satisfaction with her performance and emphasized the importance of further improvement by using the opportunity to learn and progress.

Chen Hongyi and Cheng Jiaying both expressed their contentment with their performances and highlighted the importance of using the competition as a means of adjusting and training.

Cheng Jiaying, a relative newcomer to the international competition scene, is looking to make adjustments in her energy allocation and is hoping for a smoother performance in the free skate.

In the men’s singles event, Chen Yudong and David Dai, relatively new to the international stage, both advanced to the free skate, with Chen Yudong scoring a season-best personal score of 78.74 points.

Jin Boyang, a leader in Chinese men’s figure skating, expressed his desire for all-around development and emphasized the importance of using his experience to help the younger generation of players.
