Metaverse, or parallel universe. Indeed parallel universes. I’m 43 the worlds for now existing within the Metaverso system and are about 350 thousand people populate them. Talking about “living” is still early for a reality that has in fact been experiencing its “pop” moment for only about a year. Also because – and on this aspect it is necessary to clear the field from easy exaltations and to be very honest – the Metaverse is used above all for gaming. That is to play, to embody a different character than real life in a different world than the real one. Just think of the success they are having Fortnite and Robloxthe two main ones immersive videogames together with MInecraft that are capturing the attention of young and very young people. And which are also depopulating in the Metaverse.
It should be remembered that everything is due to Second Life, the first real video game that almost twenty years ago – the online launch took place on June 23, 2003 – created a parallel world: the first real metaverse. Fortnite and the most recent Minecraft and Roblox are just appendages that came later, but the logic behind it is the same. And it is also for this reason that until today the Metaverse has struggled to take off from the point of view of the numbers of the real “inhabitants”. Many brands in the fashion world are opening virtual stores in the Metaverse, but in addition to permanence, the next step will be to try to understand how much business in parallel universes can really represent a profit.
