the Sprint is his, ahead of Leclerc and Sainz

The Dutchman from Red Bull sprints perfectly and runs alone, behind him in the battle between the two Ferraris is Charles. Russell at the foot of the podium ahead of Russell, Hamilton 8th

A triumphal walk in front of an orange wall of fans. Max Verstappen takes back what Silverstone had taken from him, winning the sprint race that opens the Zeltweg weekend. A victory never questioned, with the perfect world champion at the start and good at closing with his Red Bull, leads it to Charles Leclerc, who started alongside him and tried to surprise him. On the other hand, at the first corner, the Monegasque had to give the position also to the twin Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, who, however, in trying to force the attack on Verstappen on the uphill braking of the Remus Kurve, in the next short straight was passed by his teammate. With Verstappen in a solitary escape, the all-Ferrari duel ignited the first laps of the race, with Sainz who seemed faster than Leclerc and who during the 7th lap tried to attack his teammate again. First the Spaniard finished long at 3, then in the next one it was Leclerc’s muscular defense that definitively closed the game at Ferrari, with Sainz constantly losing ground since then.

the comeback of perez

With Verstappen, Leclerc and Sainz occupying the podium and the first three positions of tomorrow’s race (away at 15), behind them the spectacle was Sergio Perez, who from 13th place climbed up to 5th at shoulders of George Russell, and Mick Schumacher, who confirmed his excellent form by battling for the points for a long time, until he gave up two laps to go to a tenacious Lewis Hamilton, who was forced into a running race after having found in the sandwich of Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon at the start. Behind Perez, Esteban Ocon completes the points zone 6th with the only Alpine in the race (Fernando Alonso retired before the start) ahead of Kevin Magnussen with the Haas’ migloire and Hamilton. Schumacher finished 9th ahead of Valtteri Bottas ‘Alfa Romeo and Lando Norris’ McLaren. With the 8 points of the victory, Verstappen thus rises to 189 points, with Perez remaining 2nd at 151 and Leclerc rising to 145, -44 from the Dutch Red Bull.
