Will the predecessor become the successor? A return of national coach Julian Nagelsmann to FC Bayern cannot be ruled out. The Munich team announced their separation from Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. And those who were fired last year can imagine coming back.

According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, a return of national soccer coach Julian Nagelsmann to FC Bayern is not ruled out. Accordingly, the 36-year-old Nagelsmann could imagine working for the German soccer record champions again in the future. The possibility of a new engagement as head coach will only exist if preferred candidate Xabi Alonso does not move from Leverkusen to Munich during the summer break, writes “Bild” on Sunday evening.

Nagelsmann is bound to the German Football Association until after the home European Championships this summer. What happens next and whether his contract will be extended is currently unclear. Thomas Tuchel will remain Bayern’s coach until the end of the current season, after which the 50-year-old will have to leave the club. Tuchel was appointed in March 2023 as the successor to Nagelsmann, who had previously looked after the Munich team since 2021.

Löw rules out Bayern job

However, Joachim Löw has categorically ruled out coaching engagement at FC Bayern Munich as Thomas Tuchel’s successor. However, he would like to be back on the big international football stage in two years at the latest. “There are probably different reasons. “A, Bayern have no interest in me personally, probably as a coach and I would also have no interest in Bayern Munich,” said the former national coach on Sunday on Welt TV.

Löw (64) basically ruled out a new coaching job in Germany. Instead, he would like to coach a national team at the next World Cup. “What is also a goal for me is the 2026 World Cup, America, Canada, Mexico. I would find that exciting,” said Löw. From the summer he will be ready for a position as national coach.

At FC Bayern, the decision on a new sports director will be made on Monday. We will discuss and decide on this issue, said President and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Herbert Hainer. It is certain that this decision is Max Eberl’s commitment. The 50-year-old Eberl worked successfully for Borussia Mönchengladbach for many years. He most recently worked for RB Leipzig until the two sides parted ways in September.

The position of sports director for the Munich team has been vacant since the end of May. At that time, Bayern parted ways with CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
