As a type of college entrance examination enrollment, the enrollment of high-level sports teams in colleges and universities enables thousands of candidates with sports expertise to realize their college dreams every year. The new policy requires that starting from 2024, only those who have obtained the title of national first-level athlete (inclusive) or above can apply for high-level sports teams and recruit high-level sports teams. The minimum control score for undergraduate admission in the source province must be met; other colleges and universities require candidates for the college entrance examination score to reach 80% of the minimum control score for undergraduate admission in the source province. In addition, students whose scores in the cultural course of the college entrance examination are not lower than 20 points below the admission score line of the relevant majors in the colleges and universities in which the students originate can apply for the corresponding ordinary majors; the remaining students are limited to majors in physical education, and in principle, they cannot transfer to other majors. .
During the interview, the reporter learned that the increase in the registration threshold has caused many students who plan to apply for high-level sports teams to hesitate. Should they turn to sports single-strokes with relatively low requirements for cultural courses? In contrast, the single-stroke cultural class exam is a separate proposition, only testing Chinese, mathematics, English, and politics, which is less difficult than the ordinary college entrance examination. The cultural test for high-level sports teams is included in the general college entrance examination, and only a small number of people can take the single-entry cultural class test on the premise of reaching a high level of sports.
It is not only the candidates who face new challenges. Since many colleges and universities do not offer sports majors, the introduction of new policies has led many schools to make new plans in terms of development models.
Some experts believe that the “Guiding Opinions” emphasize the importance of cultural courses, which will be beneficial to the all-round development of students in the long run, but at present this does pose a problem for candidates and universities. Many high-level sports teams face the possibility of not having suitable students or even having to stop recruiting. Although some colleges and universities are actively applying for sports majors, it is still unknown whether they can do so.
Tsinghua University is one of the most successful universities in China to cultivate high-level athletes through the integration of sports and education. Liu Bo, director of the Sports Department of Tsinghua University, said that in terms of the source of students, the increase in the entry threshold has little impact on Tsinghua University. They can recruit children with strong athletic ability and better learning, but for some other schools, the source of students does have an impact. Because there are really few candidates who have reached the level of athlete and meet the requirements of cultural courses.
In addition, in Liu Bo’s view, a more common difficulty lies in professional settings. He said: “Some schools did not have physical education majors and did not meet the application requirements; although some schools have physical education majors, they are not attractive enough, and these schools may not recruit students.”
The Peking University men’s basketball team has won the China University Basketball League (CUBA) championship for several times. Head coach Zhang Jian said that Peking University currently does not have a sports major, and the leaders of the sports department are discussing whether it is possible to establish a sports academy, but it may not be feasible.
“To set up a discipline, it is very complicated to consider the allocation of teachers and the direction of training. The students of our high-level sports teams are currently scattered in various departments. If they want to go to other departments in the future, they can only drop 20 points. This is very important for Peking University. It is too difficult for the candidates to be in high school. If it is strictly implemented, many colleges and universities will not be suitable for running high-level sports teams.” Zhang Jian said.
Zhai Feng, Dean of the School of Physical Education, China University of Mining and Technology, believes that the new policy has greatly improved the requirements for high-level athletes’ cultural courses and sports grades. Many colleges and universities that set up high-level sports teams are on the one hand waiting and watching, on the other hand, seeking to adapt.
He said: “The new policy is a big blow to college sports teams. We already have sports training majors (single recruit), and we plan to stop recruiting high-level sports teams in 2024, so that sports training students can continue to play active campus sports. Atmosphere.”
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams of Huazhong University of Science and Technology are of high level. The women’s basketball team has entered the top four in national competitions many times, and the men’s basketball team won the CUBA league championship in 2004. According to Zeng Hongtao, assistant to the dean of the School of Physical Education, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, before the implementation of the new policy, they will conduct a thorough investigation in advance. If all candidates with good skills choose sports training majors, then the basketball enrollment will be turned to a single move.
“If you stick to high-level sports teams, you may not be able to recruit people. Now the industry estimates that after the implementation of the New Deal in 2024, the number of high-level sports teams will plummet.” Zeng Hongtao said.
Zhai Feng believes that according to the trend of the past two years, more candidates who apply for high-level sports teams will be crowded into the sports training major. “This year, the number of candidates applying for sports training has increased by 20%. The requirements for sports specialties and cultural courses are higher, and sports training will be more difficult to test in the future.”
Zhong Bingshu, a professor at the Capital Institute of Physical Education, believes that if a child who cannot enter a high-level sports team can only take a single move, it will directly affect the enthusiasm of the parents. He said: “The reason why candidates want to enter high-level sports teams is that they want to enter colleges and universities through this way and study in non-sports majors. Zhong Bingshu suggested that in response to the long-standing phenomenon of high-level sports teams’ light cultural learning, schools should follow the requirements of the “Opinions on Deepening the Integration of Sports and Education to Promote the Healthy Development of Teenagers” through the credit system, extending the school system, and individualized teaching. On the premise of meeting the requirements of academic standards and ensuring the quality of teaching, create conditions for outstanding athletes to complete their studies.
Zhong Bingshu said: “In addition, schools should introduce high-level coaches. On the one hand, cultural classes should be strengthened, and on the other hand, training will be guaranteed. From the school’s point of view, this should be used as a point of publicity and promotion to improve its own attractiveness.”
Zhong Bingshu gave advice to candidates who wanted to apply for high-level sports teams but were a little entangled: “From the release of the “Guiding Opinions” to 2024, this is exactly the process of a student going from senior one to senior three.
