According to police reports there are at least three dead in the provisional budget. The perpetrator of the shooting was shot during a firefight with a policeman. The man was neutralized, the sheriff’s office said, and was hospitalized, but their condition is currently unclear. The policeman sustained minor injuries.
Smithsburg is located approximately 100 kilometers west of Baltimore. According to various media outlets, the shooting took place at a Columbia Machine facility. In a tweet just before 4pm local time, a local congressman, Democrat David Trone, spoke of “mass shooting”. The county sheriff’s office reported in a Facebook post that officers answered the call at 2:30 pm. “We can confirm – he added – that there are several victims and that the suspect no longer represents a threat to the community”.
