VfB Stuttgart: VfB President Vogt defends himself against dismissal as AR chairman

As of: March 14, 2024 8:26 a.m

After his dismissal as chairman of the supervisory board of VfB Stuttgart, President Claus Vogt defends himself and announces that he wants to clarify whether the decision made can stand.

In a joint statement from Vogt himself and the association’s advisory board, it was said that the decision was “legally questionable” and that it needed to be clarified whether it could stand.

“Regardless of personal sensitivities, a crucial question arises in this situation: Does VfB really still belong to its members? Unfortunately, the events of Tuesday and the press release that was not coordinated with the club paint a different picture,” the letter said.

And further: “The spin-off promise made to our members was and is essential and binding. In our view, any deviation from this promise, which is crucial in the context of the spin-off, requires democratic legitimation by the highest body of our association: the general meeting.”

Big uproar in the active fan scene

When the professional football department was spun off into an AG in 2017, the members of VfB Stuttgart were promised that the president would also lead the supervisory board. This is no longer the case and caused a huge uproar in the active fan scene.

Doubts about compliance with the rules of the game

Vogt and the association’s advisory board also criticized how the extraordinary supervisory board meeting went on Tuesday. “In principle, every economic and personal commitment at VfB must also follow the rules of the game. These do not serve individual interests, but rather to secure the license of the German Football League as well as to maintain the VfB in its traditional structure and to protect the rights of the club members,” it said . “We now doubt that these rules of the game have been and will be adhered to and assure us that we will examine this in detail.”
