Vialli’s daughter tells the story of the time her father Gianluca was mistaken for Bruce Willis in hospital in London – Corriere TV

«In Italy they often mistake me for Gianluca Vialli», he says, but he doesn’t convince the English nurses: «No, he looks more like the Hollywood star»

During the charity evening which was held yesterday – Monday 8 January – in Genoa and dedicated to the memory of Gianluca Vialli, his daughter Sofia told a funny anecdote featuring the champion who passed away on 5 January 2023 after a long illness. «In a London hospital, during a blood test, some nurses pointed out to my father the strong resemblance to Bruce Willis, the American actor», she said. With great irony, the former Italian footballer and coach pointed out to the nurses – without revealing his identity – that in Italy he is much more often “mistaken” for Gianluca Vialli. «How do you spell it?», they ask the champion, and after a Google search they finally say: «No, he definitely looks more like Bruce Willis». The audience welcomed the telling of the anecdote with laughter and warm applause. «Well, at that moment I thought that if you work hard all your life, if you make sacrifices and never give up, in the end you can be Bruce Willis», concluded Sofia Vialli, reading her father’s memoirs. The charity evening, organized with the patronage and support of the Liguria region, was hosted by Ilaria d’Amico and Tommaso Labate. The proceeds from the show – produced by Elastica – were donated by the Viallie Mauro Foundation in support of the «Momals: multi-omics monitoring and analysis of ALS» project of the NeMO Clinical Centers in Milan and Arenzano (GE), which aims to give a strong acceleration in the path of research and understanding of the molecular basis and progression of ALS over time.
