VIDEO. Darter Brian Raman surprises commentators in top match against fellow countryman James Vanbesien: “Brilliant, wow!”

The MODUS Super Series has existed since 2022 and succeeded the Online Darts Live League, which became popular during the corona period. The matches are broadcast live on YouTube, the venue is Portsmouth. Last year, Luke Littler made a splash by winning seasons three and four. A season consists of twelve weeks with twelve darts players each, with the weekly winner qualifying for the title week. Andy Baetens also participated last year, but lost his weekly final against… Littler.

They are now in week ten of the sixth season, with two Belgians. Jeroen Caron was previously allowed to participate, but a weekly win was not possible for the West Flemish. Raman did the best on the first day by winning four of his five matches. The Antwerp native recently had surgery on his shoulder and therefore failed to retain his tour card for the Pro Tour, but on Monday ‘The Riddler’ showed great things.

James Vanbesien started the day with a nice three out of three, including a 106 and 101 finish against Budgen. Then came ‘The Phoenix’, a particularly strong Spellman, who didn’t miss a single dart on the doubles and threw an average of 100. In his last match Vanbesien lost to Raman. The score was 4-2 in perhaps the best match of the day with both men with averages above 100.

Raman – who leads the standings – achieved a finish of 93, with Vanbesien on 40. He threw single 19, triple 8 and the bull. Good for an almost unprecedented finish. “I thought he had miscalculated,” said experienced commentators Chris Mason and Paul Nicholson (once number 9 in the world, ed.). “I had never seen that route before. It was a bit like Ronnie O’Sullivan playing snooker, flashy. This is a highlight that we will see for the rest of the year. Brilliant, wow! I really had to laugh, because you don’t often see things for the first time.”
