Italvolley’s Nations League coached by De Giorgi begins with a defeat. In Ottawa, the Azzurri lose on their debut against Argentina who wins 3-0 with partial scores of 22-25, 23-25, 18-25. A result perhaps too heavy for Italy, leading for most of the first two sets but then punished by the greater experience of De Cecco and his companions. Now the Azzurri will be back on the field on Thursday 8 June at 11.30 against the United States.
The story of the match
For this debut in VNL, De Giorgi chooses Further to dribble with Roman opposite to, Courtesy and Moscow (teammates also in Verona) in the centre, Rinaldi and Recine the hitters, Sand in the role of free. In Argentina the leader is Luciano De Ceccoveteran of our championship in Civitanova in the last season. Azzurri who immediately start strong with Romanò and Mosca who dig the first important furrow on the 13-8. But Argentina reacts and returns first to a tie at 18-18 (thanks to Bruno Lima’s good serve) then with another break he wins the first set at 22-25. In the second set, the South Americans restart exactly as they finished the first and immediately took the lead on 0-4. This time though it is the Azzurri who react by going forward on 9-8 and then extending up to 15-12. From there, Italy fades away and is again overtaken by Argentina which flies up to 19-23. De Giorgi tries to change the diagonal by inserting Falaschi and Gironi in place of Porro and Romanò but the music doesn’t change: the point of the definitive 23-25 is from Loser, center of Power Volley Milan. The comeback suffered in the second set demoralizes the Azzurri who go immediately behind in the third set (6-13). Also in this case De Giorgi tries to shake him off with some changes and inserts Sanguinetti, Bottolo, Gironi and Falaschi, but the advantage of the albiceleste is too great: Vicentin closes on 18-25.
