PINEROLO. The promotion to A1 for Union Volley Pinerolo requires the Municipality to identify a solution to allow the team to train and play at home. The sports hall dates back to the 80s and no longer meets the rules imposed by the federation for the A1: the roof is half a meter lower and the seats insufficient. To remedy this problem, the season that has just ended has forced the athletes to move to Villafranca but now the problem arises again.
“We are proud of this success – says the mayor Luca Salva – I have appointed a commission that has already presented me with some solutions and among these the use of the ice rink, but we have not yet taken a decision”. Giorgio Pittau, director in charge of presenting proposals, explains: «We faced the problem with the aim of bringing possible solutions to the table; one of these is based on the fact that the ice stadium, created to host curling during the 2006 Olympics, has an adequate number of seats, 2,600, and a more than sufficient height, almost 10 meters. In many Nordic countries mixed use, with an easily removable floating floor above the ice, gives good results ».
Among the hypotheses there is also the one that it is used only for matches, while training could continue in Villafranca. Here the mayor, Agostino Bottano, has already approved by the junta an expansion of the sports hall and in addition to conferring honorary citizenship on all the girls of volleyball, he aims to still have the team: “For us it is a source of pride that also brings an tourism, but we do not want to be seen as competitors for Pinerolo, ours is collaboration ».
The Municipality of Pinerolo also has other options on the table but much more in the long term, from building a new building to redoing the current one. “In any case, for next season we will not only find a solution for volleyball but we will also bring the basketball teams back to play in Pinerolo by adapting the sports hall”, assures Pittau.
