The Pro League has announced that the quarter-finals in the Croky Cup between Union and Anderlecht and between OHL and Antwerp cannot be played today. During the morning it started snowing over Brussels and Flemish Brabant, the snow showers may continue until 3 am tomorrow morning. To guarantee the safety of spectators and to provide clarity in time to all parties involved, the Pro League calendar manager decided to postpone the matches.

“The RMI adjusted the weather forecast on Wednesday morning and predicts a snow carpet of 5 to 7 cm of snow at the time of the match in the Brussels and Leuven region,” the Pro League explained. “The calendar manager then decided to postpone the two cup matches.”

The match between second division KV Oostende and RWDM will normally be played on Wednesday evening. The weather forecast for the coast is more favorable, with little to no snow or precipitation. The kick-off in Ostend is at 8 p.m.

Good news for Anderlecht

The Brussels derby between Union and Anderlecht will be played next Thursday (25/1), Les Unionistes immediately announced. That is good news for the Purple & White, which will normally recover Thomas Delaney and Jan Vertonghen. Although there is also optimism at Union. First goalkeeper Anthony Moris would normally be suspended for the cup match, but due to the move, the suspension will be postponed to Union’s next match: next Sunday against STVV.

OHL – Antwerp takes place one day (24/1) earlier. The semi-finals, which were scheduled for next week, are postponed to February 6-7-8 and February 28-29.

Calendar manager Nils Van Branteghem just found alternatives for the postponed cup matches, but due to the overcrowded calendar that the current competition format and cup format entail, it is important to pay attention.

“If Union qualifies for the semi-finals and also advances to Europe, nothing more should happen to a Union match,” said Van Branteghem. “If they see another match postponed, the end of the regular competition will be in jeopardy. Because then they have had midweek matches for eight weeks in a row and there are no longer any fallback options. There is also an international break just before the play-offs.”
