Winter Youth Olympic Games Comprehensive: Short track players cherish each other

Chinese short track speed skating player Zhang Xinzhe has had a successful run at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, claiming an “unexpected” silver medal in the men’s 500 meters. However, despite his personal success, Zhang Xinzhe expressed mixed feelings after the race, as he felt that the silver medal should have belonged to his teammate, Zhang Baihao.

In the men’s 500-meter short track speed skating final, Zhang Xinzhe finished as the runner-up. However, the young player felt that the precious medal should have gone to his teammate Zhang Baihao, who was brought down by an opponent in the last lap of the race. Despite his own achievement, Zhang Xinzhe expressed his regret for his teammate, stating that Zhang Baihao should have been the one in his position.

Additionally, the Chinese women’s 3-on-3 ice hockey team and curling mixed team also continued to strive for promotion at the Games. The 3-on-3 ice hockey team secured victories over the Dutch and Turkish teams, while the curling mixed team achieved a mixed result, defeating the Norwegian team but losing to the Swedish team.

In alpine skiing, the Chinese athletes did not achieve their ideal rankings in the all-around competitions, but they remained focused on accumulating experience on the field. Meanwhile, Team GB made history in the men’s all-around event, with Zach Carrick-Smith securing the country’s first alpine skiing gold medal at the Winter Youth Olympics.

As the Winter Youth Olympic Games enter the next phase, various venues will face the challenge of a cold wave cooling. Exciting events, including alpine skiing, biathlon, and speed skating, are set to take place, with a total of 10 gold medals at stake on the 23rd.
