Useful keyboard shortcuts

If you find dealing with menus, toolbars and buttons too cumbersome, you can also use some practical keyboard shortcuts. This makes using Chrome faster and smoother. These are the most important abbreviations:

New tab: Ctrl + T

Close current tab: Ctrl + W

Switch between tabs: Ctrl + Tab (to the right) or Ctrl + Shift + Tab (to the left) Jump directly to the address line: Ctrl + L

Refresh page: Ctrl + F5

Save page as bookmark: Ctrl + D

Hide cookie notifications

If you’re tired of cookie messages constantly popping up and aren’t a big fan of cookie data collection, you can install a nice extension in the Chrome Web Store. This then ensures that all banners and thus also the cookies are blocked. Not only will the banners no longer be displayed in the future, but Chrome will also save significantly fewer cookies. Although some of the cookies are still allowed through here and there, the extension called “I still don’t care about cookies” is a nice addition to the Chrome browser. Simply search in the webstore and click “Add”.

Media control

If you’re working in one browser tab while listening to music or watching a video in another, you no longer have to switch to the other tab to play the next song or video. You can easily change the title using a hidden menu, which you can access by clicking on the note symbol at the top right of the menu bar. Here you can pause playback, skip to the next track, adjust the volume and make other settings.

Link ChatGPT to Chrome

ChatGPT can help us in many things, of course also in the Chrome browser. With the “ChatGPT for Google” extension you can easily integrate the AI bot into your browser. To do this, open the Chrome Web Store again, search for the “ChatGPT for Google” plugin and click “Add”. Now, during a normal Google search, a small window appears at the top right with ChatGPT’s answer to the search query.

Anti-virus scan in Chrome browser

Even if you already have an anti-virus program, double-checking works better. To really get rid of any virus, it’s worth trying out Chrome’s virus scanner. You don’t need to add an extension to do this. To be able to use the virus scanner, simply click on the three dots at the top right, then Settings, Advanced and then again on the left on Reset and clean. Then you come to another window, then click on “Clean up your computer” and then on “Search”. Chrome will now scan for malicious software. After a while, the message “No malicious software found” should appear. If Chrome finds a malware, click “Remove”.
