A well-known foreign YouTuber has accused ASUS of engaging in a scam with its repair policy, after being quoted an exorbitant fee of NT$122,000 to fix a small scratch on an RTX 4090 graphics card.
The incident came to light after a Mulgoki netizen shared his experience on Reddit, revealing that his newly purchased ASUS RTX 4090 graphics card had a minor scratch on the safety plastic protective layer. Upon sending the card in for repairs under warranty, he was shocked to receive a repair quote of NT$122,000, which was more than the original price of the graphics card.
Gamers Nexus, a popular hardware YouTube channel, investigated further and found similar complaints from other ASUS RMA repair users. Many reported being charged for additional damages that were not covered under warranty, leading to inflated repair costs.
In response, Gamers Nexus sent their own gaming console for repair to test ASUS’s repair policy. Despite only having an issue with the left joystick, ASUS claimed there were other damages and quoted a repair fee of $200.
The YouTuber criticized ASUS for what they believe to be a deliberate strategy to mislead customers and charge unnecessary repair fees. They have vowed to provide legal assistance to users who have been affected by this alleged scam.
