Aldi entered the market for balcony power plants with its online shop last year. But according to Saxony’s consumer advocates, the advertising text promised too much – they took the matter to court. Now the verdict has been made, but Aldi had already eliminated the criticism in advance.
Aldi online shop promised too much for the balcony power plant
In September 2023 we reported that Aldi’s online shop was being sued by Saxony’s consumer advocates for misleading advertising. Now the verdict in the case has been reached. The Düsseldorf Regional Court actually found that that misleading advertising was carried out at the balcony power plant. Customers would have thought that the mini solar system had an output of 600 watts, even though it was only 350 watts. Only the inverter achieves this 600 watts, but is only supplied with solar energy by a maximum of two solar modules, each with 175 watts (source: Freie Presse).
The Aldi online shop is no longer allowed to advertise with the 600 watts, but stopped doing that some time ago. The company has therefore recognized that this could lead to misleading information. The regional court also states that the additional information in the product description was not sufficient to make this clear. The advertising is now correct and can no longer be misunderstood.

We have always explained in detail in our articles that a maximum output of 350 watts is possible here, even if a 600 watt inverter is used. Such a combination is hardly recommended anyway, unless you don’t have any more space.
