Apple, the new Macs with M3 chip arrive on October 30th

Apple will hold an online-only event on October 30 to launch new products. The confirmation arrived today, after many previews: a black invitation, the silhouette of the Apple, and a slogan, “Scary fast”, scary fast, which plays on the proximity of Halloween but also refers to the performance of the new M3 chips. Because it is clear that this will be the central point of the event.

The iMac is the first and most likely candidate to receive the new processors, derived from the A17 Pro seen on the iPhone 15 Pro, because it is the one that has not been updated for the longest time; in fact, it was presented in the spring of 2021 and since then it has continued to feature the M1 processor, now only left on the old entry level MacBook Air. Less urgent would seem to be the renewal of the MacBook Pro, which was updated last January to the second generation of the Apple chip. For the Air, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg explicitly speaks of a renewal in 2024: the two models, 13 inches and 15 inches, have never been updated since the presentation (July 2022 and June 2023 respectively and both feature the M2 chip.

If Bloomberg’s predictions were to come true, Apple would find itself presenting different versions of the new chip together, from the standard one (probably used for iMac and MacBook Air) to the Max Pro and perhaps even Ultra versions, intended for machines for the professional market. Of course, the Cupertino company cannot long find itself in a situation in which the basic model of its desktops is equipped with a more recent processor than the Pro ones, and then Mac Studio and Mini with M3 should also arrive.

However, there is no news of an iMac with a larger display, which will replace the old 27″ Intel iMac Pro: according to Gurman, the project is not shelved and could materialize in a 32″ model, with a very long launch time, however: end of 2024 or early 2025.

In October, Apple has often also launched iPads, but this time it seems that the launch is postponed to next year, with the top models continuing to use the M2 processors.

Meanwhile, if you order them on the Italian website, the iMacs are immediately available only in the basic version; for all configurations with more RAM or storage space you have to wait until at least November 6th. The same goes for MacBook Pros. There is also some uncertainty about delivery dates for MacBook Airs. Usually from these signs you can understand if a new model is about to arrive: Apple, in fact, like all manufacturers, reduces the production of current models shortly before the updated ones are available. In this case, considering Apple’s usual times, the arrival in stores could be November 10th.
