This morning, in Pistoia, i Carabinieri of the NAS of Florence – in collaboration with the officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency of the Anti-fraud Directorate of Rome and assisted by the soldiers of the local Provincial Command – have executed an application order of the personal precautionary measure prohibiting the suspension from the exercise of a public service for the duration of 6 months, issued by the GIP of the Court of Pistoia at the request of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, against a nurse on duty at a hospital in that capital.
The investigation originates from a monitoring activity of some customs shipments aimed at identifying psychoactive and/or anabolic substances and the elements collected by the investigators made it possible to identify the suspect as a possible recipient of various packages imported from abroad containing the aforementioned substances, which is why, in June 2023, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Pistoia delegated the execution of a personal and home search, following which 24 medicinal vials based on nandrolone (a narcotic substance included in the table I of Presidential Decree 309/90) as well as numerous packages of drugs for exclusive hospital distribution which, based on subsequent investigations conducted, appeared to come from public healthcare facilities in the province of Pistoia.
The suspect, at present, is therefore abstractly considered the author of the crimes of embezzlement and possession for the purpose of dealing narcotic substances and, by virtue of these findings, the competent GIP of the Court of Pistoia, accepting the requests of the city Public Prosecutor’s Office , applied the precautionary measure of disqualification from carrying out the public service for a period of six months.
The precautionary measure was issued as part of a criminal proceeding, currently in the preliminary investigation phase and, therefore, the suspect – in compliance with the Constitutional provisions and Legislative Decree 188/21 – is considered presumed innocent until any final sentence.
