Apple, WWDC kicks off on June 10th: Cupertino AI arrives

Apple’s 35th Worldwide Developers Conference will take place in Cupertino from June 10-14. The event is a classic for developers of applications for Apple products, but in recent years it has taken on a broader significance, for global announcements which also interest consumers. WWDC is the time when previews of Apple’s operating systems are presented: iOs 18, iPadOs 18, tvOs 18, macOs 15 and watchOs 11.

New hardware products are not expected, but services and applications, among which there will certainly be announcements relating to generative artificial intelligence. There has been a lot of talk in recent days about the possible collaboration between Apple and Google for the integration of Gemini, the Mountain View AI model, into the next iPhones, and WWDC 2024 will be the opportunity to announce news in this regard.

Naturally Apple does not anticipate the themes of WWDC24, but there are those who believe they have found an indication in a post on X (Twitter) by Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Mark your calendar for #WWDC24, June 10-14. It will be Absolutely Amazing!”, he wrote, with two capital letters that might be a clue: AI. A coincidence, or perhaps not, although Marquis Brownlee, a popular YouTuber who often covers Apple news, seems rather skeptical: “I’ll believe it when I see it,” he writes.

“We’re thrilled to connect with developers from around the world at WWDC24 during an extraordinary week of technology and community,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “WWDC was created to share new ideas and provide developers with innovative resources and tools to create something even more extraordinary.”

It is also likely that the company will reveal Vision Os 2, the platform that powers the Vision Pro, the mixed reality headsets whose arrival in Italy is still awaited. In the last few hours, rumors have been circulating online that Apple is developing a new version of the Apple Pencil, the stylus for the iPad, so that it can be used in the metaverse and thus improve interaction for study, play and work apps. The opening keynote, given by Apple CEO Tim Cook, will be live streamed on the afternoon of June 10. Apple will share more information and the WWDC24 calendar on the Apple Developer app and Apple Developer site.
