Apple’s RRP is already history

Apple’s RRP is already history

It has now been over half a year since Apple presented the current iMac with M3 chip. We’ll tell you how prices have developed since then and how much you can now save. First of all: Nobody has to pay Apple’s official recommended retail price anymore, provided you don’t buy directly from the manufacturer.

iMac fans had to wait over two years for a new model. In October 2023, Apple heard the calls and introduced the All-in-one with the still current M3 chip along with new MacBooks. The previously established M2 was no longer used in the iMac and Apple skipped a processor generation.

iMac M3: Save 200 euros or more compared to the Apple price

The prices for this officially start iMac M3 at Apple at 1,599 euros. An amount that the manufacturer also recommends to its dealers. But they haven’t been sticking to it for a long time and are setting their own prices. For the entry-level model you pay here and there under 1,400 euros. Even large retailers are taking part in the price drop. There is currently a color variant on Amazon for just 1,399 euros, other colorations are not much more expensive at 1,419 euros (see on Amazon). Galaxus then also charges the same prices and is in a standoff with Amazon (see at Galaxus).

Short and good: You can save at least around 200 euros. Even with the better equipped models you can save – often even more. The RRP (recommended retail price) is history and no one has to pay it anymore. By the way: Anyone who buys from a dealer also receives the manufacturer’s guarantee and you don’t have to compromise on the legal warranty either.

Be careful when choosing a model

But is it worth buying a new iMac with an M3 chip? Nothing has really changed with the display compared to its predecessor. It remains the 24-inch screen with 4.5K resolution. Apple still owes fans a model with a larger display.

But the iMac with M3 is faster in any caseThis is ensured, among other things, by hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The Wi-Fi experience is also better thanks to Wi-Fi 6E. Bluetooth is now also currently running on version 5.3. Of interest to audio insiders: The 3.5 mm jack socket also supports high-impedance headphones.

The rest is consistent with the iMac from 2021:

But be careful: The smallest model of the iMac is still a “savings edition”. If you want the M3 with a 10-core GPU and not just 8 cores, you have to choose the next higher model. Apple wants at least 1,829 euros for this. In stores you also save over 200 euros (see on Amazon). For an additional charge there are two more USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet and a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID (fingerprint recognition).

Our assessment: If you don’t mind the comparatively small screen, you’ll find one in the iMac M3 fantastic desktop computer.
