Obsidian Entertainment Showcases New Game “Avowed”

Obsidian Entertainment, the company behind popular games such as Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, gave gamers a glimpse of their upcoming game “Avowed” during a showcase on Thursday night. The game is set to release on PC and Xbox Series S/X later this year.

The game is set in the Land of Life region, where players take on the role of an envoy from the Edir Empire. The fantasy saga promises to be filled with difficult decisions, one of which was showcased in a video where a soldier deserted and ran away. Depending on the choices players make when interacting with him, the story can take different turns.

Obsidian is also touting an action-oriented combat system in the game, which looks to be very flexible. Players can save different gear and switch between them, even in the middle of combat. This includes using shields, flintlocks, axes, bows and arrows, and even wands for different types of magic. A video demonstration showed how players can freeze an enemy and then break the ice with a sword, hinting at a range of possibilities for combat.

Environmental changes are also promised in the game, with lush forests, barren deserts, ravaged wastelands, volcanic terrain, and more.

A nearly eight-minute demo and screenshots of the game have been made available, giving players a closer look at what to expect from “Avowed.” Additionally, more details about the game are set to be revealed on the Xbox Podcast on Monday, where Obsidian will be participating.
