Inspired by Florida’s Cape Canaveral, China has made efforts to develop tourism in Wenchang, drawing visitors with an interest in space-related travel. The Hilton Wenchang, a hotel in the area, is decked out with space-themed decor and offers special aerospace-inspired experiences, such as a space-themed afternoon tea.
Visitors to Wenchang can also enjoy rocket designs hanging from lampposts, displays of Chinese spaceships, and even rocket-shaped bottled water. The growth of China’s space program has boosted interest in aeronautics, with room rates at the Hilton Wenchang skyrocketing during rocket launches.
The space program has not only boosted tourism in Wenchang but also increased national pride in China. Families gather on the beach to watch rocket launches, sparking children’s interest in science and technology. The country is also diversifying its tourism offerings in Hainan, with a Hello Kitty-themed resort and park set to open in 2025.
With Hainan being visa-free for residents of over 50 countries, including the United States and Canada, more tourists from around the world are expected to flock to the island for its unique space-themed attractions and beautiful beaches.
