Diablo IV’s first level 100 hardcore character dies due to disconnection

Diablo IV’s first level 100 hardcore character dies due to disconnection

Yesterday, Souaïb “cArn” Hanaf became the first player in the world to reach level 100 with a character in Diablo IV’s Hardcore mode. This ensures that his name will be engraved on Blizzard’s giant statue of Lilith, along with the 999 others who followed his feat. I’m guessing he’s content with having that sentence written in stone now, because he’s having a much worse day today.

The title spoils it. Hanav was playing Diablo IV level barbarian on Hardcore today when he suddenly disconnected. “No big deal. Just log back in.” Not quite. Blizzard wants to keep players from quitting when they’re close to death to avoid losing their character, so disconnecting from Diablo IV in any way while playing hardcore is considered death. This means that Hanaf’s barbarians are now gone forever. A heartbreaking moment, clearly reflected in his reactions when it happened and afterward.

Blizzard hasn’t made any comment on this yet, so we’re still hoping the world‘s first level 100 hardcore character gets a chance to be resurrected. Either way, this is another example of why the always-on requirement sucks.
