E-car company is launching a new Seagull with a starting price of under 10,000 euros

There is currently a tough price war in the e-mobility market, with the big players trying to outdo each other with ever lower costs. The Chinese company BYD is now making a massive advance here with a new version of its cheapest model, the Seagull, which has a starting price in China of just 69,800 yuan (around 9,000 euros). This makes the vehicle five percent cheaper than the previous model, reports Electrek. The car could also launch in Europe under the name BYD Dolphin Mini.

BYD overtakes VW as the best-selling car brand in China

BYD is aggressively cutting prices

BYD is currently on a massive rise and this year, for example, overtook VW as the best-selling car brand in China (we reported). This upswing should now continue thanks to cheaper models. With the introduction of the Qin Plus EV at prices starting at $15,200 (around 14,000 euros), BYD started a price war with classic cars with combustion engines last month. The Chinese automaker said the model officially opens a new era in which electricity becomes cheaper than gasoline.

Since then, the group has brought ever cheaper models onto the market, such as the Dolphin EV Honor, which starts at $13,900 (12,700 euros). Last week, BYD heated up the price war even more by cutting prices on its new Tang and Han models. Earlier this week, BYD cut the price of its best-selling electric SUV, the Yuan Plus, known internationally as Atto 3, to $16,600 (15,200 euros). The Yuan Plus is known internationally as Atto 3. The new Seagull EV (Honor Edition) is now supposed to undercut all of this again with a price under 10,000 euros.

Launch in Europe currently uncertain

The new Seagull is available with 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh blade battery packs for a range of 305 kilometers and 405 kilometers respectively. In the interior, the new electric car has a rotating infotainment center. The intelligent DiLink network connection allows users to interact with the vehicle and play videos. The new Seagull EV is said to be able to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in 30 minutes. According to local reports, BYD’s Seagull is being called the “Lamborghini mini” because former Lamborghini designer Wolfgang Egger led the project. It is not confirmed whether the model will also come to Europe, but rumors suggest that it will also be available here under the name Dolphin Mini.
