Epic Games Restores iOS Developer Account in EU, Epic Games Store to Launch Smoothly
Epic Games has announced that Apple has restored its iOS platform developer account in the EU, signaling a smooth launch for the Epic Games Store game market service on iOS devices in the European Union.
With the restoration of its iOS platform developer account in the EU, Epic Games will be able to put its games and software application services on the App Store in the European Union again. This means that the popular game “Fortnite” will be making its way back to iOS devices, eliminating the need for users to utilize streaming game services such as Xbox Game Pass or GeForce Now.
The decision comes as a result of the EU Digital Market Law, which requires Apple to allow iOS device users to download apps through third-party software market services in the EU. This has led to criticism from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, who claims that Apple is not intending to suppress third parties with heavy regulations in the software market.
Sweeney also expressed his belief that Apple’s practices, such as charging developers a fee for installations exceeding 1 million and creating a favorable environment for collecting fees, constitute deliberate exploitation of developers.
In an earlier announcement, Epic Games revealed that the total number of PC players on its services has exceeded 270 million, with a 10% increase in monthly active users. The Epic Games Store also saw an increase in spending, totaling more than $950 million, with third-party game spending reaching $310 million.
Overall, Epic Games provided a total of 86 free games last year, with a high satisfaction rate and over 596 million claimants, totaling more than $2.055 billion in value.
The restoration of Epic Games’ developer account in the EU marks a significant development for both the company and iOS device users in the European Union, paving the way for the much-anticipated launch of the Epic Games Store game market service on iOS devices.
