Expanding the game market layout, the original Xbox platform exclusive game “Sea of Thieves” is officially launched on PS5

Microsoft’s popular game “Sea of Thieves” has made a significant move by officially launching on the PlayStation 5 platform. Previously only available exclusively on Xbox consoles, the game’s expansion to PS5 marks a strategic shift in Microsoft’s game market layout.

This development comes on the heels of Microsoft’s efforts to acquire Activision Blizzard, a move that saw the tech giant transferring its cloud streaming game business in the UK market to Ubisoft. In addition, Microsoft promised to provide game content to other platforms, such as the upcoming launch of titles like “Retouching Traces,” “Grounded,” and “Hi-Fi RUSH” on non-Xbox platforms.

“Sea of Thieves,” developed by Rare, now supports cross-platform play between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. However, Microsoft has not disclosed whether they will be expanding server resources to accommodate the influx of players from different platforms.

While some games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will remain exclusive to the Xbox Series, this move to make “Sea of Thieves” available on PlayStation 5 signals a shift in Microsoft’s approach to game development and distribution.

It remains to be seen how this move will impact the gaming community and the industry as a whole. With Microsoft expanding its reach across different platforms, the future of gaming looks more interconnected than ever before.
