According to the source, Google Maps will be available on a compatible smartphone with a satellite modem can send the location every 15 minutes, if you are in an area without cellular connection. If something happens to you, your location is known and you can be helped if you can no longer help yourself.
That would be a real one practical extension to the text-based solution, which Google is also planning. If you have an emergency and no cell phone connection, you can use the Pixel 9 to call for help via satellite and the emergency call function will direct you with questions.
