Google Maps will soon change its image on Android

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has recently resumed testing a major makeover for its popular mapping app, Google Maps. The changes, which were initially seen in beta phase in February 2024 but then put on hold, are now back on track.

One of the notable modifications planned for Google Maps is the redesign of its interface to always keep the map in the background. This means that users won’t have to constantly switch back to the map view when exploring additional information or details. The new design also includes a new location for the back button, making it easier for users to navigate back to the map.

Additionally, the information dropdown on Google Maps will have a straighter layout, eliminating unnecessary shading that cluttered the interface. These changes aim to make the app simpler and more user-friendly.

The redesigned Google Maps is currently being tested on Android devices, with the changes expected to be rolled out in the upcoming version 11.127.x. Users of Apple devices may have to wait a bit longer for the makeover to reach their devices.

While the developers are still in the testing phase and could potentially make further adjustments, the new design of Google Maps is set to make the app resemble Apple’s “Maps” more closely than ever before. Stay tuned for updates on when the redesign will be officially launched to users.
