Greentech O2 Energy self-sufficient mobile phone mast supplies itself with electricity
Cell phone and telecommunications companies are expanding their cell phone networks to more and more remote areas to ensure better coverage.
A notable example of this is O2, which has put an energy self-sufficient cell phone mast into operation in Kirtorf, Hesse. This mast is powered by solar modules and a fuel cell and therefore supplies itself with electricity.
This initiative eliminated a previously existing dead zone and enabled both 4G and 5G reception.

The project is cost-effective and environmentally friendly as it avoided laying power cables to the site.
Similar concepts have already been introduced by other telecommunications companies such as Deutsche Telekom, while Vodafone does not yet operate any energy self-sufficient mobile phone sites.
