Heineken and Bodega present the ‘Boring Phone’ for undisturbed enjoyment

For many people, using their smartphone has long since become a habit. Whether at home, at work or at a meeting with friends, most of us regularly check what our smartphone has to offer. A collaboration between Heineken and streetwear curator Bodega is now set to change that.

For everyone who wants to concentrate fully on the moment, the online retailer Bodega, together with the Heineken brewery, offers the “Boring Phone”. The name of the limited edition Boring Phone says it all: it is a deliberately simple phone with no frills. Visually, it is reminiscent of the classic flip cell phones of days gone by. The aim of this simple device is to bring people closer together again, especially during evenings with friends, without the constant distraction of cell phones. The price is not yet known, but Heineken says there will only be 5,000 available.

Nightlife without restrictions

The concept of the “burner phone” is not new territory. The trend is moving more and more towards “old-fashioned” technologies. Many people are returning to flip phones or digital cameras. In collaboration with Bodega, Heineken has created more of an “IT” piece that is deliberately released on the market in limited quantities. The main target group of this collaboration is likely to be young people or influencers. The special thing about this flip phone is the post-futuristic design, which is reminiscent of the ideas of the future from the 90s. Because the transparent phone only has a small screen and you can assign a speed dial to the buttons for your friends. The phone was presented to the public at an exclusive party hosted by Heineken and Bodega as part of Milan Design Week.

The size of the cell phone has also been reduced to a minimum. The Boring Phone flip phone measures only 108 × 55 × 18.9 mm and weighs only 123 grams. It also has a 2.8-inch display on the inside with QVGA resolution (a quarter of VGA, i.e. 640 × 480 ), and a 1.77-inch QQVGA external display, which offers 75 percent fewer pixels. So this phone is primarily designed for phone calls and texting. The 0.3 MP camera can also take very low-resolution photos. The flip phone is manufactured by HMD.
