Valve’s Steam has always been at the forefront of computer gaming, providing a multitude of games and a reliable client for players. However, the new “Private Games” feature is taking it to the next level, allowing users to hide specific games from their library and their friends.
The default setting on Steam allows anyone to see what games their friends have recently purchased or played, but some players may want to keep certain games private for various reasons. Whether it’s sensitive or unconventional games or simply wanting to maintain privacy, the “Private Games” feature allows players to do so without worrying about others seeing their game tracks.
Previously, users could only hide games from their library, which did not prevent others from seeing that the game was owned or played. Now, with the new “Private Games” feature, users can hide specific games from their library, preventing friends from seeing that they own or play them. This feature allows players to enjoy their personal hobbies without the fear of others spying on their gaming activities.
To access and use this new feature, users must first join the Steam Beta Update by going to the Steam client, selecting “Settings,” and changing the “Client Test Participation” item to “Steam Beta Update.” Once the client is in the Beta version, users can specify private games by right-clicking on a specific game, hovering the mouse cursor over “Manage,” and clicking “Mark as Private.”
In addition, users can also mark a game as private when making a purchase. By selecting “Use for your own account: Private” in the drop-down menu when adding a game to the shopping cart, the game will automatically become a private game and cannot be seen by others.
Overall, the new “Private Games” feature on Steam offers users a way to maintain their privacy and enjoy their gaming hobbies without the worry of others seeing their game activities. This new feature further enhances the already impressive Steam platform, showing Valve’s commitment to continually improving and adding new features to their client.
