If you have a system camera or SLR, you will certainly also need SD cards. In the best case scenario, these should also be quick! Especially if your camera is capable of high burst rates or high-resolution video.
Unfortunately, the fastest SD cards with the V90 classification can quickly become very expensive. Here I stumbled across a very exciting model, the Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II.
The Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II is, at least on paper, an extremely fast SD card that is said to achieve 300 MB/s reading and 299 MB/s writing.
If these values are even remotely achieved, this would be one, if not the fastest SD card currently on the market.
So let’s take a closer look at the Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II in the test.
At this point, many thanks to Nextorage for providing the memory card for this test.
Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II in the test
The Nextorage Ultra Fast is of course a classic SD card with a black housing and a black/gray sticker.
Almost the most exciting thing here is the packaging of the SD card, which is beautifully minimalist.
Otherwise we only have the usual contacts for a UHS-II memory card and a write protection switch.
Measurement of data transfer rates
SD card transfer speeds can vary significantly depending on the card reader used, camera used, etc. For this measurement I use the Angelbird SD DUAL CARD READER, which is one of the fastest models that I know of.
In addition, I will include some other SD cards in the comparison, including the following “V90” memory cards:
Angelbird AV PRO SD MK2 V90 R300/W280
Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB V90
Lexar Professional 2000x Gold Series 128GB
The values of the Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II look really good! We get almost 305 MB/s reading and 302.6 MB/s writing. These are the best values I have ever seen from an SD memory card.
This can also be seen in comparison to other high-end memory cards. Even the Angelbird AV PRO SD MK2 V90 R300/W280 is noticeably beaten.
In practice with the Canon R6 II
But the values in a card reader are always one thing. The other is “real world” performance. First, let’s take a look at the performance in the Canon R6 II, with the following settings:
Electronic shutter High continuous shooting speed (20 frames/s) RAW Manual focus (so that the AF does not lag) ISO 100 1/2000 exposure time
Here I measure two values.
Until the camera’s buffer is full and it no longer reaches full speed. Until the buffer is completely emptied onto the memory card.
The values look really good here too! The Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II is the fastest memory card I have tested so far in the Canon R6 II!
In practice with the FUJIFILM X-H2S
Let’s do the same test with the FUJIFILM X-H2S.
Electronic shutter High continuous shooting speed (20 frames/s) RAW Manual focus (so that the AF does not lag) ISO 100 1/2000 exposure time
Here we only look at the time it takes for the images to be written to the memory card. The time until the cache on the X-H2S is filled is practically the same as on all memory cards in this camera.
A top result here too! The Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II is clearly in first place ahead of the Angelbird AV PRO SD MK2 V90 R300/W280 and Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB V90.
However, I also have to say that I would recommend a CFexpress Type B memory card for the FUJIFILM X-H2S, which are usually even faster.
Conclusion
Nextorage is certainly a somewhat exotic manufacturer, but with the Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II SD card they have a real ace up their sleeve!
This is the fastest SD card I’ve seen so far! In the card reader it reached over 300 MB/s both read and write, which is unique.
But the results in my test cameras were also clear. The Nextorage Ultra Fast v90 UHS-II was able to sit ahead of the Angelbird AV PRO SD MK2 V90 R300/W280 and Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB V90.
A really strong result! The memory card also didn’t cause any problems or appear to be fiddly. Sure, Nextorage is still a bit of a blank slate when it comes to long-term experience and durability, but we also have a Japanese manufacturer here and I haven’t heard anything negative about them yet!
