Intel discontinues the NUC series

The chip manufacturer Intel is in a difficult phase. In order to save a little money, the NUC division is now being discontinued.

Intel has announced that it will no longer make any direct investments in this area. The NUC series are mini PCs in a compact form factor, which are particularly popular in the office sector. The PCs were presented for the first time around ten years ago. At that time, Intel was considered a pioneer in this field. In the meantime, however, many other manufacturers have entered the market. So there will be plenty of alternatives in the future.

“We have decided to end direct investments in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) business and align our strategy to allow our ecosystem partners to continue NUC innovation and growth. This decision does not impact Intel’s remaining Client Computing Group (CCG) or Network and Edge Computing (NEX) businesses. In addition, we are working with our partners and customers to ensure a smooth transition and the fulfillment of all of our current commitments – including ongoing support for the NUC products currently on the market,” the company said in a statement.

Nothing should change for customers. Devices that have already been sold will continue to be supported in the future. By the way, the end of the NUCs is not the only saving that Intel is making. A few months ago, the in-house server systems were separated.
