Intel Lunar Lake design exposed, upgraded GPU and added to mobile device product line

Intel’s Lunar Lake Architecture Processor to Launch in 2023

Intel has announced that it will be launching the next-generation Lunar Lake architecture processor in 2023. The chip giant also revealed the core design of the Lunar Lake processor, including an upgraded built-in GPU and a new product line with the lowest TDP power consumption.

The Lunar Lake architecture processor will feature an upgraded GPU to Xe2 and will also introduce a new Lunar Lake-MX mobile device product line with a minimum power consumption of only 8W. The product line is designed for mobile devices and will support fanless, fully passive cooling design.

The overall design concept of the Lunar Lake processor continues the Intel Core Ultra 100 series Meteor Lake architecture and includes an independent NPU core for AI functions. The NPU has been upgraded to version 4.0, significantly improving efficiency. The CPU P-core and E-core will also see upgrades, with up to 75% reduction in power consumption for better power control.

The Lunar Lake-MX product line is expected to be available in two levels – Core 7 and Core 5. Both will be composed of four P-core + four E-core, while Core 7 will have a six-core NPU and Core 5 will have a five-core NPU. The Lunar Lake-MX will also adopt Foveros multi-chip packaging design, stacking two sets of DRAM chips with the CPU and supporting up to LPDDR5x-8533.

While there is still limited information about the Xe2 GPU, it has been confirmed that the chip code is called Battlemage. The development of Intel GPU has not been smooth, so the Battlemage project has not been confirmed. However, for Lunar Lake-MX to be launched on time, the Battlemage GPU must be online at the same time as the processor. It is predicted that the Battlemage GPU will be Intel’s selling point for promoting Lunar Lake-MX.
