Intel Responds to 13/14 Generation RMA Incident: Blames Aggressive Motherboard BIOS Settings
In the latest development regarding the Intel 13/14 generation processor stability and RMA issues, Intel has issued a statement placing the blame on motherboard BIOS default settings being too aggressive. The tech giant made it clear that there is no issue with the CPU product design itself, but rather the problem lies in the operation of the motherboard and BIOS system manufacturers.
Foreign media reports have revealed that Intel did not offer a direct apology for the incident. The statement acknowledged that the instability experienced by users was due to sustained high voltages and frequencies during high temperatures, caused by substandard operation of the motherboard and BIOS system manufacturers.
Upon analyzing CPU and motherboard samples from the RMA cases, Intel found that the instability was a result of changes in the minimum operating voltage due to CPU aging. The company noted that most of the RMA cases involved unlocked K-series CPUs paired with motherboards with overclocking capabilities.
Intel also pointed out that many motherboard BIOS default values do not align with their official recommendations, leading to the disablement of essential processor cooling and power supply protection measures. The company has since reached out to system and motherboard manufacturers, urging them to provide BIOS default values that comply with the Intel Baseline Profile and to advise users against overclocking.
While Intel continues to investigate the issue to determine the root cause, it has emphasized the importance of adhering to the Baseline Profile to minimize RMA cases and ensure processor stability. The company’s message to users is clear: whether your processor is unlocked or locked, refrain from making any adjustments that may compromise its performance.
As the situation unfolds, Intel has promised to provide more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, users are encouraged to follow Intel’s guidelines and avoid overclocking to prevent any potential risks related to the aggressive motherboard BIOS settings.
