Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 is Making a Splash at CES 2024

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 made a big splash at CES 2024, bringing back the hybrid Windows and Android device that has been extinct for quite some time. The new device from Lenovo combines a Windows laptop chassis with a 14-inch Android tablet, offering users the best of both worlds.

At first glance, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 looks like a regular convertible laptop. However, when the screen part is removed, a 14-inch Android tablet appears. The remaining chassis can still be used as a regular Windows PC with an external screen, making it a versatile device for both work and play. In addition, the tablet can be used as a wireless expansion display or drawing tablet for Windows, providing users with multiple options for use.

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 also boasts impressive specifications. The PC part is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, up to 32GB of memory, and a 1TB SSD, while the Android tablet uses a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, 12GB of RAM, and a 2.8K OLED screen. The device also features 13MP and 5MP dual cameras on the back, as well as an FHD infrared camera on the front for authentication and login.

According to Engadget’s initial impressions, the device runs smoothly and seamlessly switches between the Android and Windows systems. The only drawbacks noted were the poor network environment at CES, which affected the drawing tablet function, and the limited number of Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 carries a starting price tag of $1,999, making it a premium device. However, given that consumers are essentially getting two devices in one, it may be worth the investment for those looking for a versatile and powerful computing solution. The device is expected to be available in Q2 of this year.
