The Verge Reports: Bethesda Considering Bringing Xbox Exclusive Games to PlayStation 5
In an unexpected move, game studio Bethesda, owned by Microsoft, is reportedly considering bringing two exclusive Xbox games to the Sony PlayStation 5 platform several months after their initial launch on Xbox. The Verge quoted sources familiar with the matter, who revealed that “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” and “Starfield” may be making their way to the PS5.
“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” was first announced at an Xbox live event earlier this year and is set to be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC in December. It will also be available on Game Pass on the day of launch. According to The Verge, Microsoft is internally discussing a new cross-platform strategy, where some games will remain exclusive to Xbox while others may be ported to PS5 or Nintendo Switch.
While evaluating which games will come to other platforms, Microsoft is rumored to be considering making “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” “Starfield,” “Sea of Thieves,” and “Hi-Fi Rush” available to other platforms. However, nothing has been finalized yet. This potential move has sparked dissatisfaction among some Xbox players who believe it may diminish the appeal of the Xbox console.
The decision to open Xbox exclusive games to other platforms could potentially boost game sales, but it has also been met with criticism from some players. In particular, “Starfield” players have accused Microsoft of violating its original exclusive commitment.
It remains to be seen whether Bethesda and Microsoft will proceed with this cross-platform strategy, but it will certainly be an interesting development to watch in the gaming industry. Stay tuned for further updates.
