Grafing b. Munich / Darmstadt, April 19, 2024 – More than 700 engineers and decision-makers took part in this year’s CADFEM Conference for Simulation and Digital Engineering in the Darmstadt Science and Conference Center (“darmstadtium”). It was the industry’s first face-to-face meeting since the end of the corona pandemic. Over 100 keynotes, lectures and discussion forums focused on innovations, sustainability and the competitiveness of industry and research through simulation in product development.

In his keynote speech, Ian Roberts, CTO of the Swiss technology group Bühler AG, presented the importance of simulation in the development of sustainable processes for healthy food for billions of people around the world. The program also included the technological development of modern household appliances such as dishwashers and medical aids such as orthoses, optimization of product packaging, drive technology for cars or the planning of complex pipe systems. There was also great interest in lectures, for example on linking simulation with artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML), on automating simulation processes using scripting with Python and on the topic of digital twins.

Overall, the focus of the conference was on the cross-industry exchange of practical experience, expert knowledge and new technology approaches. Matthias Alberts, Managing Director of CADFEM Germany GmbH, emphasized in his opening statement how important this exchange is. “I am proud that we have this conference. It is exactly the right platform for leading high-tech companies to meet and discuss future topics together.”

The collaboration between research and business across industries and disciplines enables the efficient development and optimization of components, processes and process technologies in almost all sectors of industry, from aerodynamics to drive technology and vehicle construction to medical technology. Matthias Alberts: “It is only through simulation that companies can develop truly sustainable products and produce them sustainably.”

As part of the CADFEM Conference 2024, there was also the first management forum of its kind. Under the title “Contribution of simulation to the D/A/CH business location”, those responsible from industry and science discussed the future of the economy in the light of current challenges such as climate change, Energy transition, globalization and digitalization.

The CADFEM Conference is the largest specialist event for simulation and digital engineering. It took place for the 38th time. In addition to experts from business and science, there were also specialist journalists and representatives from television and radio on site who reported directly from the “darmstadtium”.
