Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth Poised to Be a Game of the Year Contender

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth has not only surpassed its predecessor in terms of technology but also in terms of gameplay systems, variety, open-ended design, and countless other details. As of now, it is a strong contender for Game of the Year.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase praised the team’s work in an interview with The Washington Post, highlighting the work of director Naoki Hamaguchi. Kitase commended Hamaguchi for setting clear goals from the beginning and ensuring that the entire team shared and understood them. The goals were broken down into medium-term targets to be achieved every three months, with regular webinars to keep the team updated.

Development of the third and final part of Final Fantasy VII: Remake’s story is already underway, with the team incorporating the effort and design from Rebirth. One of the key challenges for the final game is rebuilding the world to accommodate the Highwind airship. “I definitely wanted to address the same things we expected from the experience of Highwind exploring the world,” Hamaguchi stated.

While the release date for the third act of the Final Fantasy VII trilogy remains unclear, fans can hope to celebrate the original’s 30th anniversary in 2027 with the completion of the series. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated game.
